Sour Cherry Compote


2 pints of sour cherries, stemmed and pitted (optional)

2 cups of water

1/3 cup of sugar

3 cloves


• Place sour cherries in a saucepan, add water (it should cover the cherries), sugar, and cloves.

• Bring to a boil on medium-high heat.

• Lower the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes.

• Cool to room temperature.

• Serve it cold in compote glasses.


Serves four.


A sugar cookie would be excellent.
